Happy New Year!!!

Sorry it has been so long since our last post.
In the last six months Harry has gone from strength to strength, he has always been and continue to be such a happy little boy and an absolute joy to have in our lives. Michael and I are so very lucky to call Harry our son.
Last October we cycled again with the same egg donor we used with Harry. We had 12 Grade A embryos frozen so we transferred 4 of them into our surrogate, unfortunately we got a negative result.
At the moment we are in talks with Rotunda and our egg donor to see if she will donate for us again. We would like to do a fresh cycle to maximise our chances. We would love for Harry to have a little brother or sister and for us to complete our family (watch this space).

Family Holiday

Just some pictures of our first family holiday, we travelled to Bali for a relaxing break with our little man. We are so lucky with how well he travelled and quickly settled into the holiday lifestyle...... The 6 hour flight was no drama and the slight time zone change was not a problem for his routine and Harry took it all in his stride.

On our return Harry had his first tooth to show off as a souvenir, once again there was no real dramas apart from a lot of drool.

We can not believe that we have now been a family for 8 months and love every new day and the changes they bring.

Seven Months

Thought you would like to see this video clip of our little boy sitting up and playing. He is changing so quickly and seems to have a new trick everyday.
He has been a little grumpy this week as he is teething, we are starting to see the bottom left tooth coming through!!!
Harry is such a good boy, he loves his solid foods and sleeps very well, at night 7pm to 7am and also two naps in the day.
We love our little boy so much, we are so very lucky to have him.

3 months as a family

Sorry for not posting for so long but things have been busy and every free second we are either just enjoying the chance to chat or catching up on things whilst Harry is resting or occupying himself. I (Michael) return to work in two weeks so that will bring another change to the routine. Will's mum arrives from England tomorrow to meet Harry for the first time so we are also very excited about this...

Happy New Year to everyone!!!!

Just a quick post to say that being new dads is everything that we had hoped for and more. Our little boy is going great guns gaining weight and doing everything that he should be he has even started to sleep from 11 pm to 6 am. We can't believe he is eight weeks old today, the time has gone so quickly and can't believe how much has happened and how much our little boy changes everyday. As you can see from the picture he is also giving his dads beautiful big smiles.

Home again!!!! Well 2 weeks ago.....

Well we made it home on the 2nd December and it was amazing to get back here.. Harry was perect on the flight and had a couple of little cries but really nothing to speak of, the air stewardesses on the flight were great and definitely had lots of questions and enjoyed admiring our little man. It almost felt like Harry's Second birth when we got home and it was so nice to finally be back in our own environment... The first couple of days were difficult as we had already established a routine in India that really only involved our little boy and just relaxing, no food preparation and no housework... But we are well and truly into the swing of everyday life now.

We had no real issues with Harry's paperwork and all went well, we found that the biggest wait was for his birth certificate and once we submitted everything on the Tuesday to the Australian High Commission we were at the FRRO the following Tuesday and flying out on Wednesday.

We are now just enjoying being at home and in awe at how blessed we are to be fathers, we truly are grateful to India, our surrogate mum, ROTUNDA and Hiranandani Hospital for everything that they have allowed us to have and the care that was taken in looking after our baby boy!!!

For now we are just looking forward to Christmas, Wills mum arriving from England in January to see our little man and watching the change each day brings...

Enjoying being new dads

Just a quick post to say that we are loving being new dads and to show some pics of our little man.

We have been taking it easy the past week and just getting to know Harry, he is a very good little boy and really does not complain unless he is hungry or requires changing. He had a follow up appointment yesterday at the Hospital and his weight has increased to 3.57 kg from his discharge weight of 3.42 kg so all going well really.

We have received our birth certificate and DNA results and all information has been forwarded to the High Commission in Delhi, we are now awaiting a decision regarding citizenship, we have flights booked for Sunday but with each passing hour it is starting to look like these will have to be changed.

We are staying at the Lakeside Chalet and this is really a very comfortable place to be would highly recommend this accommodation if you are chasing somewhere with a kitchen, laundry facilities and a really good breakfast. You also have access to the facilities at the very close by Renaissance.

Hopefully all going to plan we will fly out on Wednesday the 01st December.... fingers crossed... In the meantime we will continue to stare at our little miracle..

A quick hello from Harry!!! We have our fingers crossed that our little man will be discharged from hospital today and that we will be able to go to our next accommodation! We are going to be moving to the Lakeside Chalet Apartments and can not wait to have a separate lounge and bedroom so that we can do shifts with little Harry if we need too.

He is perfect and feeding well, just a little bit of jaundice that he had photo therapy all last night for and things look like they are settling...

We will keep you posted..

Welcome Baby WHAM!!!

Harry David Taylor-Bishop was born today on the 15/11/2010 at 1247 hours, weighing 3.53 kg. He is the most perfect little person we have ever laid our eyes on and already he controls us!!!

He shares his birthday with two little special ladies we had the pleasure to meet briefly, congrats Afro dads!!!

We will continue to keep you posted but for now we enjoy our little boy!!!

Still Waiting!!

Our surrogate went to see Dr Soni yesterday and she wants to give her another week to see if she goes into labour before she intervenes. So the waiting goes on!
From all the blogs and research we have looked at we have never seen a surrogate in India go this long, today we are 38weeks and 3days and if our surrogate does not go into labour before she is seen again by Dr Soni in a weeks time she will be 39weeks 2 days! Can anyone tell us how long their surrogates went and if this is unusual or have Michael and I just seen to much of the inside of this hotel room?
We will keep you pasted!

Waiting For WAM!

Today we are 38 weeks pregnant, our surrogate is doing such a good job of looking after baby WAM he/she is in no hurry to come out.
If our surrogate does not go into labour before Wednesday she will be reassessed and likely to have a c-section on Thursday.
In the mean time Michael and I are patiently waiting for the phone to ring. We can’t go to far away from our hotel, as we don’t want to miss the birth when the phone eventually rings. So most of the time we are spending in the room. We are staying at the Rodas hotel which is only a stones throw away from the hospital.
Our luggage has finely arrived so that is a great relief.
We will keep you posted.

WAITING

We are patiently waiting for baby WAM but also for all our luggage which QANTAS kindly left for us in Brisbane.
We are well if not just a little annoyed with our airline.... Fingers crossed that our luggage turns up before baby WAM, Will is very upset and worried about his passed three months packing efforts and all the little goodies in WAM's suitcase! Most importantly SM and WAM are ok!

India is going Obama crazy and the city is practically in lock down due to his visit so going to a few tourist destinations is definitely not going on in the next few days! On the other hand Dewali is an amazing festival and the locals definitely get into the spirit of things and there is a real energy surrounding the area.

We are stating at the Rodas which is ok great location to the hospital and to supermarkets, malls an restaurants however will not be our location of choice post WAM.....

We promise to keep you posted but are limiting the usage of our laptop and iPad until our luggage arrives as of course all our chargers are nicely packed in our luggage (that is in Hong Kong, we came via Singapore!!!!).. We had the pleasure to meet Ula & Saul last night and they are a great couple and was fantastic to meet them in person...

Just a quick post to keep you all updated. We are just about to leave home for the airport to jet off to India. Baby WAM and our surrogate are doing well, we now think baby WAM will wait for us to arrive in Mumbai before he/she makes an appearance!

We are so excited and can’t wait to meet our little one!

Contractions!!!!

We have just been on the phone to our clinic (Rotunda) and our surrogate is having some contractions! Our doctor said not to change our plans but she does not think it will be very long until the birth of our baby!

We have booked our flights and arrive in Mumbai on Friday, we are hoping that our baby can hold on till then to make his or her arrival.

We are sooooooo excited, we just cant wait to meet our little one, only just over 36 hours till we leave!

6 Days till Take off!!!

We can not believe how quickly things are now starting to move, we take off for Mumbai next Thursday on another chapter of this life changing journey and we can not wait!!!!! I (Michael) finished work yesterday and this still has not really sunk in, more importantly I was also granted parental leave equivalent to that of Maternity/adoption leave and have been assured the state department I work for will add surrogacy leave into their policies by July of next year (not before time)...

Everything is now in order bubs bag has been packed and ready to go for sometime, we are yet to book our flights but think today will be the day as we received a scan report yesterday and all is on track. Still have a few little loose ends to tie up and get organised, today we are getting the baby seat fitted in the car another job to tick off.

Both our mums are starting to get very excited as are all our family and friends.... We will keep you posted..

Special congratulations to Ula & Saul we can not wait to meet you guys, we hope all is going well with your little ones.

WAM's Baby Shower

We celebrated baby WAM’s baby shower on Saturday and it was wonderful to have our nearest and dearest (in Australia) here to celebrate with us. It is days like this that we wish Australia and England were not half a world away and we could celebrate with Wills family and our friends in England.

We had a great day and baby WAM was very spoilt, it reminded us how special and supportive our family and friends are and how lucky we are to have them.

The baby shower has always been an event in our calendar that seemed some way away. So it makes things quite surreal that we have surpassed this milestone and really hits home that we are definitely having a baby!!! It came and went in a flash!!!

We would like to thank everybody for all there beautiful gifts, we love them all so much. We would also like to thank our very special friends Jason Mark & Charlotte for organizing all of the wonderful baby shower games, they were great fun!

Baby Bump

How impressive is our surrogates baby belly? She looks so well and her face is glowing. What a wonderful woman she is, we are forever grateful for what she is doing for us.

We also received a clinical update with the photo and all is going well.

We cant believe that on monday we are 33 weeks pregnant.

Not long now and we will be in India, Just 4 weeks!

32 week scan

We just got our 32 week 3D scan report and everything is right on track. Rotunda will courier a CD of the scan, so we have to wait a few more days for the 3D images we did get some 2D images with the emailed report but we could not make anything out! Our baby shower is next weekend so we will be able to show everyone the 3D images of our baby WAM. To say we are excited at the moment is an understatement, we just cant wait to meet our baby!

Almost 31 Weeks

We cannot believe that tomorrow will mark the start of our 31^st week. By all accounts everything is progressing well and our SM will be due a 3D scan very soon, which we can not wait to receive.

The nursery is completed and we have started to pack bubs bag for overseas, this is extremely difficult. Pre-baby WAM, Will and I have never been the lightest of travellers and packing for bub is proving to be very difficult… If anyone has any tips of what we should take (essentials or things you wish you had packed) please help and likewise things we should not bother taking. I think this will be the first time we travel with a shared suitcase…. Baby WAM has already claimed a suitcase of his/hers……

Will is extremely busy at the moment and working seven days so he is really quite tired. I am still attempting to get leave from my employer and this is in the hands of my professions union and the anti-discrimination commission, not really the most relaxing time and not really the stress that we need at the moment. Hopefully however this will set a much-needed precedence in my statewide organisation and pave the way for other males and couples pursuing parental leave and surrogacy leave.

We have our Indian VISA sorted but have not bothered with booking flights as yet we are still watching prices however (what did other Aussies do book one way or return flights?), will more than likely book after our 3D scan and see what this says, we are aiming to leave on the 1^st November (all going to plan). We have ordered an Indian SIM card also and that will arrive this week so we will have an Indian phone number ready for when we depart . Still have not booked accommodation but will more than likely wing this when we know for certain when we are going, definitely know where we would like to stay.

The Faith to Vishwas boys arrival really hit home this week how close we really are with the birth of their beautiful little girl Vivian Grace highlighting to us things can happen at any time.

The long awaited scan report has arrived and everything is on track! The fluid levels have gone down and is now on the high side of NORMAL, our Doctor has said that everything is fine and there is nothing for us to worry about. (We will try!!)

A single, live intrauterine pregnancy with longitudinal lie and breech presentation is noted.

Foetal cardiac activity and limb movements are observed. FHR: 124 B / M.

The placenta is localized on the posterior uterine wall, extending up to the fundus.

There is no evidence of placenta previa. It shows grade 2 maturity.

Liquour quantity is on the higher side of normal. AFI is 18.0 cm.

The lower uterine segment is normal. There is no evidence of incompetent os.

The cervical length is 4.2 cm.

Various foetal parameters are as follows:

BPD	7.2 Cm.	29.1 Weeks.
HC	26.4 Cm.	28.5 Weeks.

28 Weeks

We are now 28 weeks and hopefully all is going well. We are currently waiting for another scan to see how our SM and baby WAM are progressing. We are concerned to see if the polyhydramnios has settled and our fingers remained crossed that all is ok and progressing well.

Has been a difficult period at the moment and the past two weeks feel like they have been the hardest in a while. Seems like we are constantly asking questions but they are never all being answered. We know that everything important is being taken care of by our clinic and have faith that they are doing everything required to keep SM and baby WAM safe. Just wish that we had more of an instant feedback system to allay our concerns.

I am starting to feel like we are going to have a baby but do still find it difficult to believe and have troubles giving in completely to the experience. Will has completely surrendered to it all and sometimes I feel like I am raining on his parade. I have however started to read my first baby book and this excites me but also presents a huge learning curve!

I am currently trying to get parity with my leave rights at work so that we can access parental leave which is a bit stressful and feels like another hurdle however I am committed to obtaining equal rights and hopefully all goes well.

Our nursery is currently bursting at the seams we can't help ourselves and every time we are at the shops we leave with something else.

We have set a date for our baby shower and will be sending out the invites very soon.... We are slowly getting things done around the house before we go, but sometimes feels like one job crossed off two jobs then go on...

Hopefully we will have our scan results shortly and will be able to see how things are going.

WAM

No gestational diabetes.

Just a short post to say we have got the report back from our surrogates blood sugar levels test and there is no gestational diabetes.

She has been to see Dr Soni, she wants to see our surrogate again in a week to make sure all is going ok.

I have asked Dr Ramesh if we should be worried about the extra amniotic fluid and she has said “NO”. (Easier said then done)

We will get another scan in a week to read the amniotic fluid levels again.

The Nursery

We have been working hard the last few weeks changing one of our spare rooms into the new nursery, I love this room it looks out onto our garden and has a great feel to it.

The cot and change table we got second hand on ebay, we have done them up and now they look like new. Michael’s mum made the curtains which we think look fantastic. We have had a cabinetmaker come and build a new built in wardrobe and have had air-conditioning installed.

The net over the cot is great, it will keep out any mossies and also our cat Milly!

The décal on the wall came in about 150 separate stickers, we had a great time putting it together on the wall.

We LOVE shopping for the baby, every time the big stores have a sale we are there trying to get a bargain.

We are stocking up on formula, nappies and wipes so we are ready for our new arrival.

We can’t wait!

Mild Polyhydramnios!!

We got our 24 week scan today and baby WAM is doing great however our surrogate has got mild polyhydramnios with an AFI of 21.9cm, this means there is an elevated amount of amniotic fluid around the baby. This can be caused by many things, one of them being gestational diabetes, our surrogate is having a blood test tomorrow to rule this out.

Our doctor does not seem to worried about this and has said it is a mild case and some times the fluid goes up for no reason, also the scan report has found no foetal cause for this problem.

Has anyone experienced or know anything about this?

Almost 21 Weeks

We received the DVD of our 18 week scan last week and to say we LOVE it is an understatement! We can’t stop watching it, to see our baby moving around in there is so exciting! Every body that comes to the house I make watch the whole 10 minutes while I stand next to the TV and point things out!!! (That’s the leg, that’s the foot, look at the heartbeat) Poor people!

We are going to dinner tomorrow night to see some great friends, we met through our blog, they have the most beautiful little girl who was born through surrogacy in India, it is so nice to have there support and to have them so close is great. Guess what? We will be taking the DVD with us to show them!!!!!!!!!

Second Trimester Anomaly Scan

We got our second trimester anomaly scan today and all is normal, Rotunda send us a CD of this scan which is being couriered to us, (thank you Dr Ramesh) we cant wait to get it!! Everything appears to be right on track so our fingers remained crossed tightly.

We are so happy that our baby WAM is doing so well. I don’t feel so bad about buying so many things for the nursery and also a set of wheels for WAM, I (Will) just cant stop myself, but I must say Michael has now made a few baby purchases of his own! Now he cant stop me!!!!!! Yeah!!!!

We are currently in the process of getting some more storage space and upgrading our current built in wardrobes, the house is currently in a state of everything everywhere. It will be well worth it in the end. However at the moment it is terrible not having any cupboards!!!!

Our thoughts are with everyone out there in blog land with pending births and also George in his very difficult situation, we can not even imagine how things are for him at the moment. You are all in our thoughts.

We had a great surprise in our email inbox this morning, a clinical update of our surrogate (she is doing great) and a photo of our baby bump!

I can not tell you how happy this photo has made us feel!! Our surrogate is such a special lady and seeing this really hits home what a wonderful thing that she is doing. She is taking such good care of our little one and she has a real glow!!!

We can’t believe how much she is showing and even harder to believe that our little one is in there!

We are so grateful to Dr Ramesh for the care she is giving to our surrogate and us.

Just a quick post to show you a picture of our fur babies. They have been a major part of our lives over the past five years. We probably should be starting to wean the attention, as I am sure there will be a huge shock to them in November if everything goes to plan. We do of course have another fur baby Milly (cat) but she does not like posing for pictures.

We have started to look at a few things that we would like to get done around the house before our new addition arrives and the list continues to grow and grow, but this will be a great way to pass the time.

Will being English is also very excited about the football world cup so I am sure there will be a few sleepless nights coming up, once again another great way to pass the time.

There is no evidence of placenta previa. It shows grade 1 maturity.

Liquour is adequate.

The lower uterine segment is normal. There is no evidence of incompetent os.

The cervical length is 4.2 cm.

Things in India are very quiet at the moment our doctor is on holidays so we have not had any news since our last scan (she is back today, thank God)!!!!! I (Will) know they work so hard and deserve a rest, but I hate it when she is not there it feels like we have lost a lifeline. The last two weeks have been difficult as I usually correspond with Dr Ramesh weekly just to find out how things are going with our surrogate and baby WAM, not having that contact has been hard!

The weeks at work seem to be flying by, but it feels like our pregnancy tracker is in slow motion!!!! At the moment we both would truly love to sit back and enjoy every second of things but it is so difficult and we do not want to drop our guard it appears every one out there is also expressing that exact same feeling…..

Some exciting times are approaching for some of you out there and we cannot wait to hear and see the great news of your journey. A good friend of ours is also now 36 weeks so she is ready for a life changing experience (having her first child) and we are counting down the days till her baby shower which she is cutting very fine!!!

We had an unexpected surprise in our e-mail box today our almost 12 week scan.... We are so happy but we have our fingers crossed for things to continue this way we know how delicate this journey is. Note that troublesome little subchorionic bleed has resolved.

There is a single, live intrauterine pregnancy.

The placenta is along the posterior uterine wall extending up to the fundus.
No evidence of placenta previa seen.

The foetus is in unstable presentation.

Foetal movements and heart activity are present. FHR ---- 166 B / M.

CRL measures 4.6 cm. which corresponds to 11.4 weeks.

Nuchal translucency is 0.9 mm.

Presence of nasal bone is observed.

Ductus venosus blood flow is normal.

There is no evidence of a subchorionic bleed.

The lower uterine segment appears normal. Cervix: 3.8 cm.

Bilateral adnexa are normal.

IMPRESSION: SINGLE, LIVE, INTRAUTERINE PREGNANCY IS PRESENT.

On Monday we will be 11 weeks exactly and progressing towards our all important twelve week scans. By all accounts everything is OK with our SM she is suffering from very mild morning sickness, still on light bed rest and no pain or spotting. We send our weekly e-mail asking for our progress report which is always replied to with an up-date regarding our SM. We have our fingers crossed that the pesky little subchorionic bleed is resolving itself.

Everything else is going ok, WIll has been on e-bay and I will say no more on the matter (but he can not help himself). All seems very quiet out there in surrogacy blog-land at the moment but we are looking forward to the births coming up in future weeks. It is funny how much we look forward to what you will have and when you will have them, it definitely helps us pass the weeks of our pregnancy.

We are looking forward to seeing a great couple we met in blog land next week-end along with their beautiful little girl, she makes us extremely excited about what we have in store. The other bonus is that like you all out there they truly understand what we are going through as they too have been there and done that.

Our surrogate had her 2nd scan yesterday, as you can see from the report the subchorionic bleed is smaller, the heart beat is up to 167 bpm and everything is looking good!!!!!!!

We are so happy that this scan brings good news, long way to go but we are happy, happy, happy!

For the first time ever, no news is good news!!

Firstly I would like to thank everybody for their kind words and sharing their past experiences and helping to put our minds at ease after our last post.

Secondly, I would like to apologise for my instant reaction regarding the scan. I think this was an immediate reminder of our first failed attempt and missed abortion, I automatically felt impending doom. I blogged without thinking of the positives that were also stated on the ultrasound report and there are lots of positives there!!! I guess it should be called blogging under emotion maybe a similar condition as texting when drunk... It does make me realise how I am not as in control as I have been telling/fooling myself. And it is true what Jo Jo commented 'we all do have our own ISSUES' it is truly an emotional roller coaster and every twist and turn does leave me with my stomach in my mouth. It is however very reassuring to have the support of everyone who is also going through this similar journey.

The week otherwise has been okay, we have constantly been thinking about things in Mumbai and hoping our SM and little bump are ok and not too bored on bed rest. I have stayed away from google, Will however has been looking for anything he can and educating himself and me about subchorionic bleeds.

We would also like to thank Dr Ramesh for putting up with us the day we received our ultrasound report and her ongoing care of our SM.

We hope every ones journey is progressing smoothly and fingers crossed for less ISSUES and loads of smooth sailing!!!!

We have spoken to our Doctor and our SM is on strict bedrest and she is continuing on all medications, she is otherwise well. Fortunately she has no associated pain or visible bleeding....... Please help!!! Have any of you heard of this, been through this or know anything about this?

It is amazing how quickly your bubble can burst we were both on top of the world and so happy with our beta numbers. I was feeling very quietly confident but this has completely ripped the rug out from under me. I really want to get on the net and go crazy reading anything I can but also realise that I will only focus on the negatives, unfortunately this is me...... I can already feel myself slipping back into self protection mode and we are only 7 weeks in..... Our house seems to be full of emotion at the moment but very very quiet...

At 3 weeks gestation our B-hcg is 8240, so all looking good and the betas are doing what they should do!
Our first ultrasound is in 2 weeks, we are hoping for a heartbeat and for everything to be progressing as it should!!! fingers crossed.

2nd Beta!

We have just got the report of our surrogates 2nd B-hcg test and at 14 days of gestation by ET our beta is 1029, more then doubled in 2 days and things are looking good.

On our last cycle when we lost our baby at 12 weeks our 2nd beta was only 24 and did not double, To have a great number like 1029 makes us feel so good.

Next beta in a few days!

The Numbers Are In!

2:30 am this morning we got an email that said “ Your surrogate has tested positive for pregnancy, The B-hcg levels are good at 419”

I say it again 419, Michael and I are overjoyed, Yes Yes Yes Yes !!! We are pregnant!

I know its very early and there is a long way to go but for now we are more then happy.

Thank you all for your comments and support, it really means a great deal.

Thanks to our lovely surrogate and egg donor, without them none of this would be possible.

The B-hcg test will be done tomorrow and we will get the results on Tuesday by 2pm Indian time.

So in just over 48 hours we will know if we are pregnant or not!

We are both calm at the moment and feeling positive.

I (Will) keep looking at the photos of our surrogate, egg donor and embryos and talking to them (I must be going mad).

Our 2ww ends on a Sunday our clinic don’t do B-hcg tests on Sundays so it will be done Monday and we get the result a week Tuesday!

I guess at the moment I am ‘comfortably numb’ I am wary of getting too excited really just protecting myself for the possibility of a negative. I am trying to be positive and putting good vibes out there in the hope of this having any affect on the outcome. Every now and then I do think what if (either good or bad) but quickly push those thoughts to the back of my mind.

We had a twenty-first birthday party here yesterday for our eldest nephew, it was just a family affair but was a great time for all my (Michael’s) family to be together. It is amazing to think of him being 21 my eldest sister is 8 years older than me and had him at 21 and I was 13 so he was a big part of my teenage years. Really is a reminder of how quickly time flies. That was a great distraction but throughout I could not help thinking I would love to have a celebration like this for ‘our’ child.

We have tickets next weekend to see the Merchant’s of Bollywood, an attempt for us to be closer to India and also a well timed distraction, we bought the tickets a month or two ago but it has timed perfectly with awaiting news.

We are keeping anything anatomically possible crossed and trying to accept what will be will be, but hoping this will be our time!!!!

5 Grade A embryos have been transferred into our surrogate today and the 2ww begins!

Egg retrieval was on Sunday, we egg shared so we only got 11 eggs. 9 of them fertilised and turned into embryos, 5 grade A, 3 grade B and 1 Grade C, because we transferred all the grade A embryos there is none left for freezing, Talk about all your eggs in one basket(surrogate) but we are ok with that.

All we can do now is hope for the best and stay positive.

Thank you all for your comments and words of wisdom over the last few posts, it means so much to know we are not going through this alone, all of your support means a great deal.

For now we are happy with our progress and things are looking good.

Surrogate Change

We are so close now to the start of this cycle, egg retrieval is due for Tuesday and our egg donor is doing well. Our first choice of surrogate got her menses late so we are now cycling with our second surrogate choice who matches our egg donors cycle, not such a bad thing as our second choice was as good as our first!!!

The waiting is killing me, I hate it, as the time gets closer each day seems to get longer and longer. Our clinic are so patient with me (Will) I email just about every day asking about something, I always get a reply the same day explaining all my questions, our doctor is very understanding of our situation.

I read on some peoples Blogs that if their first cycle is not successful they feel calmer on their next, not me (Will). I feel so nervous this time round, more than the first time, I am trying hard to stay positive and enjoy the journey. I feel I am the sort of person who is able deal with anything but what I am having problems with is the not knowing, if I knew the outcome I could deal with it, but until I know I feel like my life is on hold! Can’t wait for things to start!

Getting closer to the start of our new cycle and the nerves are setting in! Michael seems to be less nervous then me but I think he hides it well.
Our egg donor starts her preparation on or around the 16th Feb so egg retrieval is around the 1st march.
Our clinic have been very helpful in the selection process of our new surrogate and have found us a surrogate that we love and fits all our criteria, she is a first time surrogate so they have also allowed us to select a back up surrogate just in case things don’t work out with her preparation.

Happy Australia Day & Purna Swaraj Day January 26th

On the 26th we will be celebrating Australia Day along with Purna Swaraj Day (India's Independence Day). Will's mum is coming across from England for 4 weeks on the 25th so we are also looking forward to this, she is fantastic and we have a great relationship with her so we are truly excited about her yearly visit. She will definitely feel the heat however as she is coming from a very cold winter to our scorching humid summer, thankfully the air conditioners are primed and ready for her arrival.

We are planning to go to South bank on Tuesday with Will's mum and my mum, there will be traditional Indian dancers celebrating Purna Swaraj and Australia Day and there will be a fantastic vibe in the city, it should be great!! We will then relax on a river cruise with a seafood lunch followed by the typical BBQ with friends and a few nice cold drinks.

It is now five weeks till our next attempt so we are getting there slowly but surely. Will has been obsessed with our new egg donor having long chats to her picture every night, she does have very wide beautiful eyes and hopefully she holds an integral part to our future family. Our clinic remain positive about her previous cycle and we have our fingers crossed for many positive results to come. Will has also been speaking to our new Doctor who will be helping us with this cycle Dr Ramesh, she has been very easy to talk too and very approachable with our nagging questions hopefully this will continue (we are pretty high maintenance).

I am definitely feeling a little more relaxed about this attempt (easy to say when we are five weeks away) we are both trying to put as many good/positive vibes out there as possible. I still find myself staring at pregnant women in ore and following the progress of a very close friends pregnancy. Had our initial attempt continued we would have been due three weeks apart, thankfully however all things continue well for her and she is well aware that she has two babysitters and four hands to help at anytime.

We are keeping are fingers crossed for the Christmas Eve boys for the 26th hopefully you guys get the news you deserve and have been waiting for!!!

2010 Year of the Tiger

Happy New Year to everyone!!!

Well we are now into the new year and we are excited about what the year will bring and hoping for a healthy, happy, prosperous year full of new adventures and hopefully the pitter patter of little feet or at least the happy, hungry cry of a new born. In saying this we are excited and dreading the process that will get us there. We are already thinking about the surrogate selection, egg collection, the two week wait and then hoping we get to experience the dread of our first ultrasound and then looking forward to the news of a heartbeat. If we are so lucky to get there we are going to dread and be extremely anxious regarding our first twelve week scan and check as this is unfortunately where things went wrong for us last year. Please don't think we are pessimists (well maybe I am, Michael) however Will is definitely a glass half full person and always looking on the brighter side but combined we definitely create a yin and yang and this challenge although very early and no where near as difficult as some of you, I feel is a testament to our relationship and those around us (and to all of you who are undertaking the same process) .

There are so many unknowns that we are going to face this year and the majority we will face alone without the support of those nearest and dearest, our closest friends and family. Although very supportive and very understanding we often find ourselves sugar coating our experience as to make it more palatable for them, it is difficult enough to tell people that you are attempting to have a child through surrogacy, then you bring in a foreign country, then India, then Indian egg donor, then questions about the biological father............... (you all get the picture I am sure). Throw in the mix a few hiccups with communication a few hiccups with our clinic and the loss of our baby at twelve weeks and I can tell you we did face alot alone, although we shared our experience with others we did still protect our family and friends from the nitty gritty leaving us to laugh, cry, yell and scream the experience out together as a couple.

We have read silently and lived many peoples experiences via there blogs. We have followed for some time reading about peoples two weeks wait, joys and happiness, the advancing pregnancies and unfortunately some losses. That is why we are here too thank everyone who we have followed and in the hope that some people may do the same with our journey. We hope to have the picture perfect journey that will read like some fairy tale, however (the pessimist in me) knows we will have hiccups and we will share them warts and all.

We hope that this year the year of the TIGER will be our year, I am not into astronomy or any of that but somehow I see myself looking for anything that will be a positive or hopefully bring us luck and a little baby to love and nurture!!!! I hope the same for all of you out there and trust us we will be living out all your experience's with you and wishing you all the best!!!!

We started our surrogacy journey 12 months ago, we had both always wanted to be parents but always thought that physically and financially this would never be possible. Then we found out about surrogacy in India, we were so excited and contacted many clinics in India and looked at the pros & cons of each clinic. That was a massive learning curve in it-self, the communication from many clinics was poor and just getting a response is not easy! After all our research we decided to go with Rotunda.

To make a long story short we transferred 4 grade A embryos and 1 grade B into our surrogate at the end of august 2009.

2 weeks later we get the email that said we were pregnant BUT and there is always a but, Our beta number was low (17.5) they would test again in 2 days, next beta was 24, not doubled and we almost gave up hope, we tested again 2 days later and beta was 98, Then 147, then 286 and so on, they doubled every test after that!

At our first scan they found a heartbeat and all looked good apart from the embryo was a little small and showed a week lag, we were told that this was ok and nothing for us to worry about. We were so happy our dreams were coming true, I can’t remember ever being that happy.

At our 10 week scan all was still looking good and our baby was growing, still one week behind but a good strong heartbeat!

We knew it was very early but I (Will) could not stop myself buying some baby clothes when I went to our local shopping centre, I was so excited I could not believe what was happening.

2 weeks later our world was turned upside down, at our 12 week scan it showed our baby’s heart had stopped beating and we had had a missed abortion.

That was about 8 weeks ago, we are still finding it hard to except but if we want our dream of being parents we must move on.

We have decided to stick with Rotunda and have found a new egg donor and we cycle again in Feb!

So that’s where we are at, this is the hardest thing we have ever done, to anyone who is thinking about undertaking this journey don’t do so lightly, you put your life on hold, its always on your mind, its in your every thought (waking & sleeping), you have many sleepless nights and life will never be the same again (that is just before the baby!!!!). But the reward of a baby at the end of it all is what keeps us going, it will be worth it and our dreams will come true!!!!!!! (I hope)
